Subject: Book: The Muslim Mind on Trial
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to bring to your attention the publication
of "The Muslim Mind on Trial," by Abdessalam
Yassine. "The Muslim Mind on Trial"
is one of more than 30 books by Yassine, a prominent
Muslim scholar from Morocco, and one of the leading
contemporary thinkers of the Muslim world.
It is a scholarly book that focuses specifically
on the human mind-as being receptive or hopelessly
inimical to God's great plan for a modern-day
community founded on deepest Qur'anic streams.
In essence, the argument elucidates the profound
contrast between the secular materialistic mind
(and its philosophical dead-ends) and the believing
mind founded on and nourished by Revelation.
The contrast is 'one of character'. At the one
extreme-which Yassine likes to associate with
the theories of Darwin and their bestial consequences
for the dignity of the human species-lies a rudderless
human mentality, floundering in the oceans of
philosophical speculation. At the other is a mind
securely anchored in Faith and God's Word, not
withdrawn into a pietistic self-centeredness but
expansive with the goal of enlightening fellow
humankind, bringing peace and prosperity, and
the incalculable power of unity.
Sincerely,
-Imad Benjelloun, Ph.D.
